Blast Cleaning uses highly pressured air to force abrasive media onto surfaces, making it an excellent method of removing paint and other coatings from a variety of substrates such as brickwork, timber, steel, iron, wood, concrete, glass, fibreglass, stone etc. It is also suitable for providing a profile on steel before painting to ensure the new coating adheres properly.
Shot Blasting is one of the most effective methods of removing unwanted rust and contaminates from metal objects, safely removing coatings from both ferrous and non-ferrous components. It is much more forgiving to rusty steel, body filler and fibreglass repairs which can be totally consumed by acid dipping so is ideal for areas of metal that may have had repairs in the past, such as bodywork.
Still widely referred to as Sand Blasting, it was actually made illegal in the UK in 1999 due to the risk of silicosis, a potentially fatal lung disease, caused by the fine silica dust particles in common sands. The Sand Blasting performed today is actually what is known as Shot Blasting (or Grit Blasting) which uses substitute abrasives such as glass beads and steel grit which pose no such silica dust risk.
