Concrete Floor Preparation Contractors

Specialist concrete floor preparation services for factories, warehouses and commercial and industrial premises across the UK. Our experienced contractors use captive shot blasting, diamond grinding and specialist surface preparation techniques to remove coatings, laitance and surface contaminants, create the required concrete surface profile and prepare floors for industrial painting and protective coating systems.

Stronger Surface Preparation

Removes weak surface layers, laitance and contamination to create a sound concrete substrate.

Correct Surface Profile

Creates the required concrete surface profile for coatings, paints and other floor systems..

Cleaner Working Surface

Removes dust, residues and deteriorated material before new coatings are applied.

Better Coating Adhesion

Helps primers, paints and resin systems bond correctly to the prepared concrete floor.

CONCRETE FLOOR PREPARATION

From existing concrete floor to a properly prepared surface.

PREPARING THE SUBSTRATE

Intercity Contractors provide specialist concrete floor preparation services for existing and new industrial floors, preparing the surface for painting, resin coatings or its intended working use.

We remove existing paint and epoxy coatings, glue and latex residues, laitance, contamination and unwanted surface material using specialist mechanical preparation equipment.

Depending on the floor and required finish, we can level, clean, profile or texture the concrete to create the correct surface for the next stage.

MECHANICAL FLOOR PREPARATION

Specialist preparation for demanding industrial floors.

SHOT BLASTING & DIAMOND GRINDING

Our concrete floor preparation contractors use captive shot blasting and diamond grinding to prepare factory, warehouse, workshop and other commercial and industrial concrete floors.

These processes can remove failed coatings and weak surface material, eliminate laitance and remove polished or power-floated finishes where required.

We can also create the appropriate Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) to provide the texture and mechanical key required for industrial floor paints, epoxy resin coatings and other protective floor systems.

PRECISION FLOOR PREPARATION

Targeted preparation where it is needed.

PRECISION SHOT BLASTING

Not every industrial floor requires complete surface preparation. Where an existing coating or power-floated finish remains serviceable, we can prepare only the areas that need treatment.

Our specialist equipment includes custom-built floor shot blasting machinery capable of preparing precise areas such as 100mm lines, walkways and operational markings without unnecessarily stripping the surrounding floor.

Using specialist SPE shot blasting equipment, we can tailor the preparation method to the requirements of the existing surface and the new coating system.

DUST-FREE FLOOR PREPARATION

Control dust. Minimise disruption.

SPECIALIST DUST EXTRACTION

Mechanical preparation of concrete can generate significant amounts of dust, particularly when grinding or removing existing surface material.

Intercity Contractors use captive dust-free shot blasting, equipment-mounted vacuum systems and high-powered dust extraction units to control dust at source during floor preparation.

Our specialist shot blasting and floor grinding equipment allows us to select the appropriate method for each surface while helping to minimise disruption to surrounding operations, other trades and working areas.

SPECIALIST CONCRETE FLOOR PREPARATION CONTRACTORS

Industrial floor preparation expertise since 1997.

Intercity Contractors were established by founder Andrew Marshall in 1997 and have been providing specialist surface preparation, shot blasting and industrial painting services for more than 25 years.

Today, our experienced teams undertake concrete floor preparation projects for factories, warehouses and commercial and industrial premises across the UK, combining specialist equipment, technical knowledge and decades of practical experience.

PLANNED AROUND YOUR OPERATIONS

Professional preparation without unnecessary disruption.

COORDINATED PROJECT DELIVERY

Industrial floor preparation often needs to take place around live production, warehouse operations, other contractors and existing site schedules.

Our teams work closely with site managers and other trades to establish clear timings, access requirements and working areas before preparation begins. Where required, work can be planned in stages to help keep critical areas operational and minimise disruption.

Projects are undertaken with appropriate health and safety controls, with clear communication throughout to ensure the preparation work integrates effectively with the wider project and site operations.

FROM ENQUIRY TO COMPLETION

1. SITE & PROJECT REVIEW

We establish the floor condition, intended use, operational requirements and the preparation or coating system required.

2. SCOPE & PLANNING

The proposed works, programme, access requirements and costs are agreed, with the project planned around site operations and other contractors where necessary.

3. SURFACE PREPARATION

Existing coatings, contamination and weak surface material are removed using the appropriate preparation method, including captive shot blasting or diamond grinding.

4. PAINTING & COATINGS

Where required, the prepared floor progresses into primer, industrial floor painting, epoxy resin coatings, line marking or other specified floor systems.

5. INSPECTION & COMPLETION

Completed works are inspected before handover, with the finished floor checked against the agreed project requirements.

Concrete Floor Preparation FAQs

What methods do you use to prepare concrete floors?

We use specialist mechanical preparation methods including captive shot blasting and diamond grinding. Depending on the existing surface and required finish, these processes can remove old paint and epoxy coatings, glue and latex residues, laitance, contamination and power-floated finishes, while creating the required Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) for the next floor system.

Correct preparation creates a clean, sound and appropriately profiled substrate for primers, industrial floor paints and epoxy resin systems to adhere to. Applying a coating directly to contaminated, weak, polished or inadequately prepared concrete can compromise adhesion, durability and the finished floor system.

Yes. Where existing areas remain serviceable, we can undertake targeted preparation rather than treating the complete floor. Our specialist equipment allows us to prepare defined areas such as production zones, walkways and 100mm line markings while retaining surrounding surfaces where appropriate.

Yes. We regularly work within factories, warehouses and other operational commercial and industrial environments. We coordinate access, working areas and timescales with site managers and other contractors, and work can be phased where appropriate to minimise disruption while maintaining the necessary health and safety controls.

Yes. We can remove failed, damaged or unwanted floor coatings including paint, epoxy resin, glue and latex residues, together with surface contamination such as dirt, grime, oils and other deposits. We can also remove laitance from new concrete and mechanically prepare polished or power-floated surfaces where a suitable profile is required for subsequent painting or coating.

Yes. Concrete floors can be mechanically prepared to create an appropriate surface profile and improve traction, while we can also provide specialist anti-slip floor coating systems where additional slip resistance is required. Different coating grades are available for demanding commercial and industrial environments including factories, warehouses, dispatch areas and other high-traffic or potentially wet working areas.
