The Intumescent Painting Specialists - UK Wide

Intercity Contractors specialise in Intumescent Painting Services across the UK, having built a reputation over the last 30 years for excellence and quality at competitive prices. Our specialists can provide expert advice as to the preparation and intumescent paint that is best suited to your requirements.

What is Intumescent Painting?

Intumescent is the leading substance for fire protection within the construction industry. It is a core component of passive fire protection. Building Regulations require intumescent for its fire resistance and fire retardation properties.

Intumescent painting is a fire retardant coating commonly used on steel, steelworks and cast iron. By coating structural steel beams in intumescent paint, you extend the longevity of the structural integrity in the event of a fire.

Intercity is dedicated to using the latest and most innovative fire protection coatings for your property, providing potentially life-saving solutions. Our fire protection coatings can be applied to steel structures, timber surfaces, service penetrations and construction movement joints. Degrees of fire protection offered include 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.

Our team at Intercity have been successfully applying intumescent coatings and materials in London and nationwide for decades. It is integral that this job is carried out by an experienced and knowledgeable firm like Intercity Contractors.

How Intumescent Painting Works

When exposed to heat, intumescent paint swells in a controlled manor producing carbonaceous char to help protect the coated structure. The coatings swells to many times its original thickness to insulate the coated area for the specified time period.

This extends the longevity of the structure by preventing the material from reaching its critical failure temperature. It also slows the spread of fire, allowing more time to evacuate the building.

Intercity Contractors use a range of intumescent paints with differing fire protection ratings to suit your specific building regulations and architectural specifications. We are an established intumescent specialist in London.

Like water, fire can penetrate the smallest of gaps, so it is essential to ensure complete protection. Our fully trained team will discuss all of the potential hazards with you in order to deliver the highest levels of fire protection possible, providing you with valuable peace of mind.

Why is Intumescent paint needed?

In the unfortunate event of a fire, structural steels can have their load-bearing capability impaired thus affecting the structural integrity of the building. If weakened, the structure could quickly collapse and possibly prevent evacuation and impede fire-fighting services.

When it comes to fire protection, there really is no compromise. Intercity Contractors can help you to limit the spread of fires, minimise business losses and, above all, save lives through the precise application of technologically advanced fire protection coatings.

Intumescent serves its purpose as a potentially life saving material. New constructions and exposed structures are required to have suitable passive fire protection by UK building regulations.

Protective & Decorative Finishes

Intercity Contractors can apply specialist top coats that ensure the performance of the intumescent paint isn’t hindered in any way. Our extensive library of specialist paints enables us to match a top coat to almost any colour you desire.

This is perfect for exposed steel supports or timber beams, adding the finishing decorative touches to functional and integral intumescent coatings.

This also protects the intumescent paint from the environment. A protective top coat is crucial for steels, both internal and external, in a high moisture environment.
