Intumescent coatings offer heat and fire protection for steel structures. Our fire retardant paint systems provide a specified time of protection for steel, iron and even timber. These coatings can be further protected with a top coat.

Here at Intercity Contractors we offer a mobile spray painting service. Our professional and experienced team who carry out the on-site spray painting use only the best industrial paint systems available. We can apply weatherproof paints, marine paints and intumescent fire protection coatings.
HVLP technology is utilised along with airless spray painting and air assisted airless spraying to provide excellent coverage on all kinds of surfaces.
Any sized job can be tackled using our portable spray and fume extraction equipment – from small repairs through to spraying cladding on large buildings. An exceptionally high quality finish is obtained using our equipment regardless of repair.
Intumescent Fire Protection
Intumescent fire protection is a coating commonly applied to steel and cast iron for fire retardancy. Structural steel beams often used in industrial buildings can be coated in intumescent paint, this will extend the longevity of the structure in the event of a fire.
Once it’s exposed to heat, intumescent paint swells in a controlled manner which then produces carbonaceous char to help with protection. The coating is capable of swelling to many times the original thickness to insulate the area for a specific period of time.

Our fire protection coatings can be applied to steel structures, timber surfaces, service penetrations and construction movement joints. Degrees of fire protection offered include 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.
