1. Why should we repaint our factory floor?
Factory floors can deteriorate through continual machinery, pedestrian and vehicle traffic, oils, chemicals, spills and general industrial use. Repainting can protect the underlying concrete, improve appearance and cleanliness, restore worn surfaces and create clearly defined working areas. It can also be an opportunity to reorganise walkways, production zones, storage areas and traffic routes around the way the factory operates today.
2. Can factory floor painting support a Lean or organised production environment?
Yes. A clearly finished and marked factory floor can help create a cleaner, more organised and visually managed working environment. Production areas, pedestrian routes, vehicle routes, work zones, component storage and temporary storage areas can all be clearly identified. Where a business is focused on Lean manufacturing, 5S or continuous improvement, the floor can form an important part of maintaining an organised and efficient workplace.
3. Can you repaint factory floors when production layouts or machinery change?
Yes. Factory floor painting is often required when machinery is relocated, production lines are changed, new equipment is installed or an existing production area is reorganised. Old markings can be removed or covered where appropriate and the floor recoated and remarked around the new layout, including production areas, pedestrian routes, vehicle routes, storage zones and designated working areas.
4. Can you add safety markings and anti-slip finishes to factory floors?
Yes. Factory floor coatings can incorporate anti-slip finishes where additional grip is required, while line marking can be used to clearly identify pedestrian walkways, vehicle routes, hazard areas, restricted areas, storage zones and other designated operational areas. The specification can be developed around the particular safety and operational requirements of the site.
5. Are factory floor coatings resistant to oils, chemicals and spills?
Different industrial floor coating systems provide different levels of resistance to oils, chemicals, cleaning products and other substances encountered within manufacturing environments. We can assess the conditions and expected exposure before recommending an appropriate coating system. A properly specified sealed surface can also make routine cleaning and the management of everyday spills considerably easier.
6. How do you prepare an existing factory floor before painting?
Correct preparation is critical to the performance of the finished floor. Existing surfaces may require cleaning, removal of contamination or previous coatings, repairs and mechanical preparation before the new coating system is applied. The preparation required will depend on the condition of the concrete and the existing surface.

7. Can factory floor painting be completed without shutting down the whole factory?
Factory floor painting will normally require individual working areas to be taken out of use during preparation, coating and curing. However, we can work closely with your production, operations and site management teams to plan the project around operational requirements. Where practical, work can be phased into sections so other areas of the factory can remain operational. Access, sequencing, working areas and curing requirements can be agreed in advance to minimise disruption while allowing the work to be completed safely.
8. Can you meet the health and safety requirements of large manufacturing sites?
Yes. Intercity Contractors regularly works within industrial and manufacturing environments where health and safety, contractor compliance and site procedures are fundamental requirements. We work closely with clients’ site management and health and safety teams to ensure the necessary documentation, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), site procedures and project-specific requirements are addressed before work begins. Our teams work in accordance with current health and safety requirements and site rules throughout the project, enabling us to integrate with the procedures expected on larger manufacturing and operational sites.
