What is Surface Finishing?
Surface finishing is a process achieved via the method of Shot Blasting, or Blast Cleaning, which is a mechanical cleaning method used for the efficient removal of rust, paint coatings and other debris from metal, timber, brick, concrete, glass and more. We offer tailored blasting techniques to suit a wide variety of surface finishing.
Often referred to as Sand Blasting or Shot Blasting, surface finishing can be used in a wide variety of applications; cleaning and refurbishing anything from small car and vehicle parts to garden gates. The process of shot blasting cleans and prepares the surface ready for paint and sealant applications, hence Surface Finishing.
We remove any unwanted rust and contaminates from your metal objects, safely removing coatings from both ferrous and non-ferrous components. Stripping your items back to clean bare metal ready for painting. Our Midland shot blasting facility can achieve surface finishing grades such as Sa 1, Sa 2, Sa 2.5 and Sa 3.

How Blast Cleaning Works
Our Shot Blasting room uses high pressure compressed air to propel abrasive media at the target surface via a manually operated nozzle, making it an excellent method of removing paint and other coatings from a variety of surfaces. Our blast room uses steel grit, which is the most efficient media. Our expert shot blasting team simply adjust the operating pressures depending on the specific surface.
These include metal surfaces such as car wheels, cast iron furniture, chimenea fireplaces, metal fire pits, suspension springs, engineering components and all manor of other metal objects from fabrications to flame cuts. We can also shot blast non-metal surfaces such as timber, giving it an aged or distressed appearance.
Shot Blasting is more forgiving to rusty steel, body filler and fibreglass repairs which can be totally destroyed by acid dipping. Our Coventry shot blasting room is ideal for working on areas of metal that may have had repairs in the past, such as bodywork. We can be as gentle as necessary to prevent damages from occurring during the surface finishing process.

Midland based Surface Finishing
We use a purpose built shot blasting room in Coventry, West Midlands using steel grit as the main abrasive. This is one of the safest and most efficient ways of shot blasting in 2022. Our operatives merely have to adjust the specialist equipment to the correct settings to ensure every job is done correctly.
The self-contained shot blasting facility uses a spacious room for the actual shot blasting, with the necessary plant and control panels in a totally separate area. This allows us to work in all weathers to get your jobs done. Freshly shot blasted metals are vulnerable to rusting if exposed to moisture. This is not a problem at Intercity as our shot blasting facilities are 100% weatherproof.
What Can We Shot Blast?
What can we shot blast? In short, anything. Our blast room is spacious enough to allow full vehicle shells, steel staircases, lampposts and much more. Anything too large to fit within the confines of our blast room could be considered for our mobile shot blasting services. We serve the Coventry, Birmingham and Leicester areas as well as offering a national service on larger projects.
Common items we see in our blast room include cast-iron benches, chimeneas, steel gates, alloy wheels and much more. We also offer a wet-spraying painting service on your newly shot blasted items to ensure they are correctly protected against elements such as weather, heat and chemicals.

Intercity Contractors have been proudly shot blasting in the Coventry and Warwickshire area for over 25 years. Our North Coventry shot blasting depot is mere minutes away from Nuneaton & Bedworth via the A444 dual carriageway.
Our midland base is ideally suited for customers coming from Birmingham, Coleshill and Castle Bromwich, or Rugby from the opposite direction, as we are just off of Junction 3 of the M6 motorway.
Intercity’s Coventry Shot Blasting facility is accessible from Royal Leamington Spa, Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon and Kenilworth. You can find us easily off the A46 by travelling north through Coventry City Centre via the A444 dual carriageway.
Intercity Shot Blasting is on Judds Lane, Coventry, CV6 6AQ, opposite the CBS Arena’s WEST Stand, after the mini roundabout on Judds Lane.
If you are driving up Judds Lane you will come past the turn for Rowleys Green Lane on your left and continue straight towards the mini roundabout. Heading straight over the mini roundabout, you will find us on your left hand side after around 25 meters.

Metal Surface Finishing
Effectively removing dirt, paint or rust from an object is often a very laborious job using manual removal methods. Shot blasting uses compressed air and a medium to remove these contaminants from a surface.
The result is clean, uncoated metal which is subsequently vulnerable to moisture which causes oxidisation more commonly known as rust. To eliminate regaining what you set out to remove, we offer a professional re-finishing service to protect the metal.
We use various methods of wet-spraying to finish your items off. Your items will not only look great but also be properly protected from the weather, chemicals and even wear & tear depending on the application chosen.
Intercity uses spray painting as opposed to other popular methods such as powder coating. This offers more versatility in regards to specialised paint systems. We can offer heat protection, weather protection and even chemical protection. It all comes down to your specific requirements.
