Dead Dog Bridge Spray Painting – Central London

Dead Dog Bridge Spray Painting – Central London

Dead Dog Bridge, Camden

Our team have recently been contracted as part of the restoration of Grade II-listed Regent’s Canal bridge “Dead Dog Bridge”. Built in 1846, this Camden bridge is the busiest canal footbridge in the country with over one million visits a year to cross the canal basin below. This busy canal bridge is used by both pedestrians and cyclists following the towpath across the waterway beneath the Camden Interchange Warehouse.

Intercity have been working with the Canal & River Trust to ensure this busy bridge restoration is completed in an efficient manor, trying to cause as little disruption to the public as possible. Dead Dog Bridge will be closed throughout the project, and towpath diversion routes will be in place. The canal will remain open for barges and boats to navigate.

The restoration of the Grade II-listed bridge has been enabled by an award from Postcode Earth Trust thanks to money raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The Victorian bridge is not only a site of historical significance, Dead Dog Tunnel featured on the big screen as a double for Q’s top secret underground workshop in 2015’s 007 instalment Spectre.

Our side of the restoration consisted firstly of safely removing the old lead paint coating and cleaning of all the metalwork; the period guard rails, or parapets. Once the metalwork was cleaned to Sa2.5 standard, we could then apply a protective primer and paint coating with our mobile spray painting equipment.

On this occasion, the customer opted for a specific RAL colour code as their topcoat. This was to achieve a similar appearance to the old brown-red colours found in lead paints of the period. We also offered the customer codes from the BS (British Standard) colour chart, which is commonly used on listed restoration projects. Intercity are proud to offer an extensive colour library, ensuring we are able to match almost any shade you desire.
